Christmas Market Tour with Wine Tasting
Time for a great Xmas market
It is that time of the year again – when we all want to spend some time outside drinking some hot wine! Now, finally, the time has come to enjoy this moment.
The best spots in Budapest
From the last week of November until Christmas and even past New Year’s Eve, the center of Budapest transforms itself into a huge Xmas Market. It’s actually several smaller Christmas markets, but they all flow together to form one.
The biggest of these is on Vörösmarty Square (located in downtown) – and, in fact, it was nominated as the second best Christmas market in Europe several times (by Hungarians! Just kidding…maybe). This market hosts wooden stands selling a wide range of hot Hungarian traditional foods, hot wine and handmade crafts. As you can imagine, it’s full of people. It’s always very popular among the tourists and the locals.
The second most famous one is in front of the St. Stephen’s Basilica. Here you’ll find a small ice skating rink in the middle of the square and a huge Christmas tree. You’ll have the chance to enjoy some famous Hungarian cuisine and drinks here as well. The specialty of this market is that each night from 16.30 to 22.00 every half hour there is a Xmas light show projecting onto the Basilica – it really captures the spirit of the holiday season.
We move next to the nearby Károly Avenue. There stands a smaller market, with its own food, drink and stands all connected to each other.
